Kenya
is one of the world’s best birding destinations and
truly a birders' paradise.
Kenya currently holds the world record for “the most
bird species recorded
in a single country in a single day”. In some parts
of the country, records of 400 species in a single location
are common and the record of rare species reads like a birders
wish list.
There
are 60 named “Important
Bird Areas” where rare and endemic species are
found and from these you can make your ultimate birding
safari. The variation in habitat across Kenya
means that different areas of the country have very different
birds making it fascinating for birders. Because much of
the country is open grassland or bush the birds are also
relatively easy to see.
Between
October and April, there is an addition of some 120 migrant
species from the northern hemisphere and some from other
parts of Africa. In March-April and October-November, there
are good sightings of the passage migrant species. From
April to October the Northern Migrants are replaced by birds
from the southern hemisphere and Madagascar.
